Harlesden Town Gardens
Community Garden Development
Harlesden Town Garden was an anti-social, unloved space neglected by its Council and community for many years. The space has been reclaimed and with an active Friends group revitalised, enabling residents whether advantaged or disadvantaged, to engage and connect with each other. The Garden has become a space that provides new opportunities for friendship, shared garden skills, well-being and employability.
A new MUGA court, club community house, raised beds, borders and a number of gorgeous murals on walled play spaces have been designed and installed by residents. This has provided a safe vibrant community space with raised beds full of vegetables and flowers. The garden demonstrates bio-diversity and sustainability and is an expression of local cultural friendships and connectivity.
Local and national stakeholders who provided expertise and funding included: Brent Council, Peoples Health Trust, Veolia Environmental Trust, Storp Weber Architects, Barlett School of Architecture and Trees Associates.
