Essaouira

The walled city of Essaouira was settled in prehistoric times followed later by the Carthagininans, Romans, Berber and Arabs. The site, a winter home for a retiree, is approximately 10 kilometres from Essaouira surrounded by small farms and fields with low stone walls. It subject to the strong winds that blow in from the Atlantic so shelter is critical. The construction and planting, using local techniques and knowledge, is being enthusiastically undertaken by the nearby farmers.
